Atlantic Brant by Nambroth Atlantic Brant by Nambroth
My submission for this year's Federal Duck stamp contest!

A pair of Atlantic Brant.

I actually painted this a few months ago, but couldn't share it until now.

An explanation into why I painted this the way I did:

When I was in CT this spring, there was a magical event. Magical to me, anyhow! My husband, his brother, mom and I visited the shore on a compound tide (sun and moon pulling the tide) so the tide was out much lower than even a 'normal' low tide. This exposed rocks that normally stay underwater and they were covered with beautiful Irish Moss (algae) that was sort of glowing yellowish orange in the light. A brant climbed up on one of the rocks while its buddies surfed around it, feeding. It was such a cool scene that I experienced with family and I knew I wanted to paint it, even if it didn't stand a good chance of winning. Which I know is sort of silly, but I had to try!

Acrylic on board, 9" x 12"

This would make a beautiful state or federal duck stamp!

Thank you! I tried for the Federal with it last year, but it wasn't up to par (my fault!). I will try again this year with a new painting. :)

John, what an honor for you to say that! I will do my best, but I would be surprised to make it past some of the big names! They sure can paint a duck! I will let you know. :) The closest I have come so far is 4th place in North Carolina, and second place in Oregon for their conservation stamp.

Fourth and second place is fantastic due to the amount of competition you are up against, I have faith you will win!
