My submission for this year's Federal Duck stamp contest!
A pair of Atlantic Brant.
I actually painted this a few months ago, but couldn't share it until now.
An explanation into why I painted this the way I did:
When I was in CT this spring, there was a magical event. Magical to me, anyhow! My husband, his brother, mom and I visited the shore on a compound tide (sun and moon pulling the tide) so the tide was out much lower than even a 'normal' low tide. This exposed rocks that normally stay underwater and they were covered with beautiful Irish Moss (algae) that was sort of glowing yellowish orange in the light. A brant climbed up on one of the rocks while its buddies surfed around it, feeding. It was such a cool scene that I experienced with family and I knew I wanted to paint it, even if it didn't stand a good chance of winning. Which I know is sort of silly, but I had to try!
If at all possible would you please let me know how it all turns out, You have the talent to create a beautiful stamp, I have been collection both state and federal stamps for 20 years and I would be honored to have one of your beautiful stamps in my collection, thank you for your time. John
John, what an honor for you to say that! I will do my best, but I would be surprised to make it past some of the big names! They sure can paint a duck! I will let you know. The closest I have come so far is 4th place in North Carolina, and second place in Oregon for their conservation stamp.
