This is a labradorite carefully hand wrapped in Argentium sterling silver. I called this piece 'cat's eye' because of the way the color rolls across the surface in a vertical pattern; it reminds me of a cat's eye.
Labradorite is an amazing stone that can appear dark at first, until you move it and the stone comes alive with colors flashing within. The effect is similar in appearance to opal fire. It is called chatoyancy, which is a fancy way of saying that the color 'flashes' or 'rolls' across the stone, like cat's-eye but far more vibrantly. It is a natural stone, and the effect is caused by refractive layers within the stone. It cannot be simulated or dyed to look that way!
I hand wrap these pieces with nothing more than my fingers and a tiny pair of pliers. I purchase the stones already polished from rock and gem shows.
Thanks for looking.
[[ Since so many ask-- yes, I do sell these on my personal site: [link] ]]
You work is absolutely fantastic! The craftsmanship is unparallelled by any work I have seen. Every bit of your work is elegant and beautiful. Do you sell your work?
