This is a moonstone carefully hand wrapped in Argentium sterling silver. It is a custom commissioned piece; the owner of the stone asked me to wrap it for her and I was happy to do so. I only occasionally do custom orders, and usually only if I can see the stone in person first to determine if I can wrap it or not.

Moonstoneis an amazing stone that can appear dark at first, until you move it and the stone comes alive with colors flashing within. The effect is similar in appearance to opal fire. It is called chatoyancy, which is a fancy way of saying that the color 'flashes' or 'rolls' across the stone, like cat's-eye but far more vibrantly. It is a natural stone, and the effect is caused by refractive layers within the stone. It cannot be simulated or dyed to look that way!

I hand wrap these pieces with nothing more than my fingers and a tiny pair of pliers. I purchase the stones already polished from rock and gem shows.
