Flame-Crested Forest Dragon Windstone by Nambroth Flame-Crested Forest Dragon Windstone by Nambroth
This is sort of a 'collaboration'. This male dragon sculpture was sculpted by artist Melody Pena :iconreptangle:, and is a cast of her original sculpture. I only painted it! Go check out :iconreptangle:'s gallery!

The color pattern is one I made up myself.

This is an official Windstone Editions piece. You can visit their site here: [link]

FAQ STUFF:

So wait, you work for Windstone Editions?
Yes, I work for Windstone! I paint special one-of-a-kind and very limited pieces for them and also help them in random other ways. I do not sculpt for them or anything, I just paint stuff sometimes and do odd jobs. Melody Pena is the creator of the sculptures themselves! She is brilliant!

Where can I get one of these? How was it done?
So far this piece is one of a kind, though there is always the possibility that I will do more or one similar. Because of the incredibly labor intensive manner of hand painting this dragon, it is impractical to make a 'line' of these to sell in stores. He took a while to paint, and I used Golden brand acrylics and special dry mica powdered pigments for the metallic and iridescent effects. He is painted with normal acrylic paint brushes and has glass eyes, and real gemstones in his forehead.

I want to paint one too!
Male dragons are a Windstone production line dragon, and as such they do not sell them blank. I only painted one because I work for Windstone. But they do sell blank "Paint Your Own" critters: [link]

Can you paint one for me?
No, I am sorry! All of the special pieces that I paint for Windstone go right back to them for them to sell. I cannot paint one on commission for you. You can get a blank "Paint Your Own" and paint it yourself though, or have someone paint it for you! There are a ton of really talented artists out there that can do this. "Paint Your Own" Windstones are a separate line from their normal dragons but they are still very cool!

The color palette is wonderful! It brings to mind the colorful gourds I see around halloween time, with the bright oranges and yellows balanced against acid green.

I have a dragon statue like this, I got mine in Mexico. It was just stone-colored, but it had a red eye. I think the structure's exactly the same.

It may be a knock-off of a Windstone. That happens a lot.

hrfnghtyakthg I have a few of these and my mother's got several of them, I LOVE them. Mine are the royal blue/purple adolescent and the pearl white adolescent. My mom has the family of greens, I think, and the very large pearl white elder dragon whose official name/age I forget. I LOVE Windstone and am now insanely jealous that you work with them. Gaaaah. :D

...might have to get one of those paint-your-owns, though. That sounds like too much fun to not do.

It sounds like yours are the Peacock dragons (now retired), and White (also retired). The Old Greens that your mom has are pretty old-- they haven't been made since 1996! The big dragon might be an Emperor. :)

That's it, the Emperor. And yeah, we've had them for years and years. Dad and I got her the Emperor for Christmas quite a while ago. I'm contemplating buying a couple of the paint-your-own pieces and I can't even come close to deciding what colors I'd use. :) Keep up the gorgeous work!

Haha! They used to make some lawn dragons out of cement, you can still find them online and in some shops. They are called "Rock Dragons."

Oh gosh, that is my most favouritest colour scheme on a dragon. If I could afford it, I'd be all over this guy.... uh, somehow. Even though he is not listed on the site. Such is the power of my yearning. Anyway, the point is, this is great, and you are great and should feel great.

Thank you!!
This guy has sort of a complicated history. He sold many years ago on eBay via official Windstone auction, and ended up with a friend of mine that sadly passed away. So, I have him again, but have no real room to keep him, so I will sell him once again soon.

A year later and I'm still thinking about this dragon, haha - do you still have him, and if so, are you still planning on selling him?

Oh dear, no... when I would paint these things, they'd get shipped right off to Windstone and they'd sell them on auction. They didn't belong to me-- I painted them as my job.
This one has a bit of a complicated story.
This guy came back to me briefly as his owner passed away and she willed him to me.
I don't have room to display a ton of these so I opted to re-auction him so that someone that would enjoy him could get him, then I donated the proceeds to various charities, such as the World Parrot Trust and the Save the Redwoods League, in the lady's name that passed away.
