Artist's Comments

I recently came into a set of 40 some odd prismacolor markers from a very kind and generous friend.

Having never dealt with the stinky things before, I decided it was time to change that!

This was drawn straight up with black micron/Zig inking pens onto a translucent piece of vellum- then colored on the back of the vellum with the markers. They do amazing things on the vellum as they don't absorb into it as they would paper. I found the result to be mostly (to me) uncontrollable, messy, and fun- much like watercolor paints on crack.

This, really, was an experiment and isn't all that lovely- but the reactions I've received thus far have been positive! I appreciate it every time someone takes a moment in their life to look at my work. Thanks guys- you make it all worth it!

Hm. I never would have thought of coloring on the back of the vellum. That had to have been interesting. The form past the beginning of the neck looks a little weird, but you were experimenting, so it's understandable. I really do like the neat fading effect on the membranes, though. It's a neat effect ^..^

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons: though you taste terrible, they're willing to bear it to be rid of the nuisance.

Ooo, I do like the look the markers gave... is vellum the same as mylar paper? It looks like a great way to ink. Great job on this, of course, as usual. :pie:

Lovely! Even if it's simple, the colors are brilliant. Everything is so bright and well-shaded. I love the color choices and the methods you've used to color the blue webbing between his spines. The splotchiness really gives it a lot of texture and makes it really interesting to look at. Also, the calm green makes the spines stand out all the more, really bringing life to the character. The vellum was a nice touch too, because, like you said, this totally looks like watercolor. Sounds like you had lots of fun with this guy. He turned out great.

I find it truly amazing that you, despite saying that the pens are uncontrollable and messy (which they are, since I have some), you still managed to keep them within the lines, yet got that AMAZING watercolor-esque blending, especially in the wings. It's just beautiful. The colors are so vibrant and purdy. ;.;

Very pretty. :} I love the shading in the face and the dappled look you gave to the membranes. Wonderful color choice, too. It seems as though you got the hang of those markers quickly!

I've been slowly acquiring them for a while now- I think last winter is when I purchased my first three. Fell in love with them the moment I tried them out. ^^ Though it's strong, I really don't mind the smell too much(reminds me of a craft store!)

I always get excited when I see your name in my messages folder. x} You have such beautiful work!
