Leaping Kirin by Nambroth Leaping Kirin by Nambroth
First, I get asked a lot so I thought I'd provide some insight into my nonsense:

I often get very frustrated with drawing, and more often than not get fed up with the process of sketching, inking, erasing, cleaning it up, etc etc...

Sometimes my patience lacks and I just take a sheet of paper and hit it with inks without sketching first. Each stoke is permanant and mistakes can't be fixed.

I've chucked a lot of half-drawn pieces because of this! Patience pays off.

This is one of the ones that didn't get chucked, though it still, to me, has mistakes. For those that insist they don't see the mistakes, you are very kind. :)

A leaping kirin in a bamboo forest.

What the heck is a kirin? [link]

5" x 7" ink and marker.

We're always our worst critics. I don't post most of my drawings because I don't like them for one reason or another, but I find there's always someone out there that likes them. Maybe it's good not having a trained eye.. (Nah!)

I really like how this turned out. I could see a few "mistakes" here and there, but it's not enough to ruin the picture for me. You also must have a ton of patience to give this as much detail as you did! That aspect alone makes this picture impressive. :)

That's a good excercise! Sometimes i have to hit the paper with a pen just because that's all I have. And it teaches you to work with mistakes rather then trying to correct them directly.

I don't see mistakes either. And I know exactly how you feel. In fact I'm considering on strictly moving to just drawing with pen because, like you, I find so many mistakes with my pieces, and get so stressed.

Regardless - it looks awesome. :)

I think it's a gorgeous piece, Jennifer. All your new uploads are, in fact! :D The only mistake I can see is really just a nit-pick, in that I wish the whole tail could be seen because so little is cut off. But that's debatable; as for technical/ execution errors, um, I think I'm in the dark there- it's lovely work!

By the way, I can relate to this:
"I often get very frustrated with drawing, and more often than not get fed up with the process of sketching, inking, erasing, cleaning it up, etc etc."

Same here; I just want to start painting! And then I look at the board, drawing transferred onto it, ready to be painted, pick up a paintbrush, and go "uuuhhhh... what now?". I suppose although it's a creative process, there is an awful lot of "mind over matter" and sheer hard work involved!

Anyway, keep up the awesome work. Cheers.

Of course we insist there's no mistakes! Each pen stroke looks so deliberate and crisp. Any errors would just give this piece character. Your work is something to be genuinely proud of. You really bring these creatures to life.

Is it rule that all good artist blame themselves and their art? Usually there isn't any mistakes or they are so meager that I wouldn't realise it if the artist didn't tell that there is it. I don't see any mistakes.

you are very brave :worship: i can't pick up a pen and slap down some color and have a good image at the end (or anything resembling an image for that matter). i have to go through the "whole process" and even then most of what i have still isn't great ^^;

basically what i am trying to say is even though there may be some mistakes, the fact that you didn't do a pre-sketch/sketch/etc... its a great drawing. and the mistakes that i see are small (and in my opinion (which doesn't necessarily count for much) not a huge deal... they don't detract from the over all picture).
Great Job!

Your "mistakes" and "scribble" and things you throw away display more skill and beauty than the best work by some other artists. You're always so hard on yourself, but then, every artist is their own worst critic.

Also, YAY KIRIN! I love Kirins! And I'm so glad you didn't just do "a horse" or "a goat", this really has its own feel for the body shape.
