This is my first attempt at real scratch board. Real scratch board being masonite board covered in clay with a layer of black ink on top... vs. the thin papery stuff that I always ruined!
This was a learning experience and didn't really turn out how I wanted it to but nonetheless it was fun to work on! The swirls were inspired by some vintage patterns I found and then elaborated on. Wire wrapping jewelry also helped me think of ways to swirl the lines.
Took about 2 weeks of solid work. I don't have any real tools so I used an x-acto knife.
After I finished this piece and sealed it, I then learned via some literature that you can sometimes correct mistakes with black ink! Gah! I wish I had known that before, haha! Well, that's life. So this truly is all freehand and all my mistakes are there for all to see.
Gorgeous piece! I've never tried "real" scratch boards before, but they sound like fun. We made our scratch boards in an AP Art class by putting India ink over the paper, but that's about it. I really like the texture you managed to bring out in the Raven's feathers and how it transitions so nicely to the swirly floral design.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
