A commission for Lanakila, of a Red Crested Cardinal (which, for the bird geeks out there, is actually closer to the tanager family than it is to cardinals and grosbeaks). :)

I painted this in a web program called Sketcher; it's sort of like an Oekaki. I used only one 'layer'. There is no undo button! I used pretty much just the ';pen' tool on this. A few folks from Artspots watched me paint this live over the last two days.

His wing positions are probably unrealistic in the asymmetry, but it was done just for fun so mistakes are part of the process. ;)

Beautiful! I'm one of those bird geeks. ;-) It's alright that the wings are slightly off, I do love that you drew the feathers correctly. In all of your artwork. So many people completely ignore how feathers lay on a bird.

Wow this is fantastic, so much detail!! All that featheriness, I love it! Plus I love cardinals. I was thinking to myself how they're grosbeaks, so I learnt a few months ago and then I read that this one isn't actually so grosbeak-like after all! Thanks for the info ;)
