Rein Mask by Nambroth Rein Mask by Nambroth
A commissioned mask for Rein (on FA) of his gryphon!

As I cannot cast resin in my current situation, this was built on a blank crafted by the talented :iconyellow-fr3ak:. I love this chunky eagle face and it works particularly well for some gryphon characters, I think!!

I made some minor modifications to the blank, including re-sculpting (mostly around the beak, nares, and birdlips). The eyes are hand painted resin half-spheres. I had some issues with my airbrush, so the painting is done by hand. Furred (with faux fur), and approximately 300-350 feathers were each trimmed and set individually by hand. Very tedious, but rewarding!

Not shown: Blue silicone tongue (I'll try to get some shots of someone wearing it later!). The jaw is fully articulated and moves with the wearer's jaw movements.

You really get the spirit of the bird in the eyes, eagle and hawk eyes are so cool to look at. I always get a chill when one bird stares at me :P

I usually do it after and set each one by hand into the fur.

I'd kill for a head like this if it was colored like Fire.

My Fursona is a Phoenix/Gryphon named, Feenix Soulfire
