A small flock of wild turkeys (Rio Grande Subspecies), picking food in the misty daybreak sunlight.

I think turkeys are great! They do often appear dull or black but their feathers have a lot of structural color, which can create amazing iridescence in the sun. :)

Though it is far from perfect I learned a lot from my mistakes in the painting of this. :)

Acrylics on board, 15" x 20"

Turkeys are absolutely beautiful, and I think they're very under-appreciated. You've done a great job capturing all of the colours in their feathers, although I think the edges of the feathers could have been portrayed as flatter and less curved. The spurs on the male's feet are well-placed, too - it irks me to see so many pictures of toms, roosters, and even peacocks and pheasants either without spurs all together, or with spurs in completely illogical places!
