Description
This is a Spix's Macaw.
The Spix's Macaw is believed to be extinct in the wild, and critically endangered in captivity. Its only hope remains in the remaining 78 (known) in captivity.
These beautiful macaws are one of several critically endangered parrots (and one of hundreds of critically endangered birds) that it is only with awareness, education, and steps to stop destroying vital habitat and stop the illegal pet trade will we have a chance at saving these guys and others in their situation. Sadly the Spix's macaws in captivity are owned mostly by private individuals, and it is proving difficult to get them to put aside differences and politics to work together to save this species.

This feather will be donated to and up for auction at the Anthrocon Charity Auction 2008- all proceeds will be donated to Parrot Rescue.
Painted with acrylic paints on a blue and gold Macaw feather (which was moulted/shed naturally from a healthy, happy parrot!) and adorned with a natural sapphire.
