Artist's Comments

This was a commission for a book cover of "Sword of the Dragon: Offspring" by Scott Appleton. It depicts a scene from his novel (unfortunately at this time I do not know when this will be published, I will update if this changes).

This was completed almost entirely with the oil pastel brushes in Painter (and a little bit of the 'grainy water' blending brush). I didn't keep track of my exact hours invested but suffice to say it was probably 90+, possibly 100 hours of work. I learned a lot over the course of this painting and will continue to push myself artistically.

I wish I didn't have to say this part but I am increasingly needing to sadly, but please do not repost, redistribute, sell, or otherwise glean from this image. Infringement may be met with legal action not only by myself but by the publisher. I am not trying to be arrogant or self-righteous; jsut trying to protect my livlihood.

Thank you so much for looking at my work! I honestly do appreciate it! :)

That's an awful tiny sword for such a big lizard! What on earth was Mr. Appleton thinking?

It's a plastic play-sword from Walgreens (located in their seasonal Halloween section) and it only comes in dragon-chillren sizes. (It has a button that makes flames shoot out and kills the undead within a 50' radius, only 2 AA batteries required)

I agree but it is what the commissioner requested. :) Thank you!

Lovely. You managed the contrast on the white dragon beautifully, and the trees look great. They're a fitting dark backdrop to such a shining subject. ^..^

Where to begin?

This is absolutely beautiful! I love how the dragon stands out in the picture. The sword looks kind of cute because it's so tiny compared to the dragon. And the detailing in the dragon's head is amazing. Beautiful job with the shading and lighting!

And that background is phenominal! The water is absolutely beautiful with all the detaling put into it. And the grass and trees are perfect!

As usually gorgeous job!
