The Flag Bearer by Nambroth The Flag Bearer by Nambroth
A kestrel-type gryphon rises into the sky and hovers, while bearing a string of flags. Is it a celebration, or something more serious?

Dedicated to my friend :icontyrrlin: Tyrrlin, who was generous enough to sponsor me for my upcoming art show.

Watercolors and ink on rough watercolor paper, 10" x 14"

Not only is the use of watercolour fantastic [my favourite medium <3] the kestrel inspiredness is awesome :) It seems like there's a shortage of K-bird art out there <3

How do you make those interesting blue splatters for the background? And do you do that after finishing the colours of the subject?
I find your talent with watecolours and ink fascinating

Sometimes (most of my past paintings) I paint the background first, but on this one I did it last. I just toss the paint everywhere!

Though my first thought (before I read your description) was that he had blundered into a clothes line while flying :giggle:

Oh! I want to cuddle with it! the fur and back paw/feet are amazing... o_O
Do you mind if I ask about the necklace? It gives this entire other aspect to the gryphon, I really like it. Why is it there? :)

I like to sometimes add things like jewelry to my fantasy critters! Because: 1. It's fun, 2. It gives a hint of society and greater intelligence than an average fantasy 'monster'; in theory we can guess that a human necklace would not fit and therefore the necklace would have to be made just for the gryphon, and 3. It's fun! :) Sometimes there is a specific reason, and sometimes I just do it for the reasons listed above.

That's really cool. I have a tendency to notice details and there always seems to be several in your art. It makes the piece more complex :)
I love your work! Thanks for everything.
