This is a Ammonite fossil carefully hand wrapped in Argentium sterling silver. This ammonite has the most lovely rainbow sheen dancing across the entire surface, a very pretty gemstone fossil! Nature creates all the amazing stones I work with.

This is not a sea shell or nautilus!
In fact, it's not hollow at all, but a solid stone fossil.

Ammonites are a (now extinct) creature that lived millions of years ago. They were categorized as Cephalopods and their closest living relative is thought to be modern squids, cuttlefish, and octopus. The lived through the age of the dinosaurs, and went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period. Some ammonites have been found as large as 6 feet in diameter, but this one is slightly under 2 inches.

Since the rainbow sheen is only on the surface of this fossil (nacre), care must be taken not to damage it.

I hand wrap these pieces with nothing more than my fingers and a tiny pair of pliers. I purchase the stones already polished from rock and gem shows.

Thanks for looking. :)

Oh my gosh, that's beautiful. Your silver work really complements the stone and showcases it. So many gorgeous stones are ruined by a bad setting, but yours are delicate, creative, and work with the stone instead of competing with it. Fantastic work!

Why not?

I have admired your jewelry for a while, but this is something astonishing. It's both stunningly beautiful and a real prehistoric animal - if I just could, I would buy this right away.

Great work!
