Wisteria Gryphon by Nambroth Wisteria Gryphon by Nambroth
A lady gryphon; a reflection of the beauty and grace of the wisteria branch she holds.

She is either a very small gryphon, or lives in a land with huge wisteria blooms. You decide. :D

11" x 12" (approx, with torn edges) Ink and watercolor on Fabriano 300lb. rough. The leaf effects were created with real leaves harvested from my yard.

I fell in love with this piece immediately! There is a serene harmony in the motion of the patterns, the form of the bird and the flowered branch it's holding that evokes a feeling of completion and peace. Just amazing!

oh i'm on a roll now. This would make for an amazing tattoo as well. Not only do I love wisterias and gryphons and have been loving this particular image for ages, it even inspired me to draw when i was a pre-teen kid. It could also be significative of how you can just make your own world with art, what with the imaginative creature holding an existing flower, but playing with the imagination with the sizes. I really love this one. I've been considering getting one of your traditional art dragons or gryphons tattooed for a while now, since you are a really big influence on my art. I remember my first attempts at watercoloring seriously were done after discovering your website at age eleven or something, and you fuelled my love for dragons and gryphons. For a long time, afetr seeing your jewelry and how sometimes your creatures wore jewels of their own, I made all of my mythical creatures wear a jewel of their own in honour of your ideas. Now I'm 17 and still making smaller replicas of your best pieces in my sketchbook to learn to draw with your intuition for realistic look. Ok, rant over XD Would you mind me using on of your pieces for a tattoo? I'd notify you which one of course, if i'd ever do it.

Sure! All I ask is that 1. The tattoo artist not retain a copy of my art for 'flash' etc, and 2. I'd love to see a photo!

Say, Nambroth, how d'you do your traditional media ? What do you start with, watercoloring or inking ?

I almost always ink first. :) But sometimes I have a party and toss watercolor everywhere first.
This piece was inked first.

This is very pretty. I need to play a lot more with watercolor. You manage to be tight with it where you want to be and loose where you want to be. The effect is beautiful.

I love the colours. And how you ink and draw wings. And the textures really finish this piece off.

Also, I'd prefer if it were small, like ~Eastern-Star says, it's cuter =P

I like the idea of a small gryphon. It sounds cuter.

This is lovely; I especially like the bashful expression she has. The colours are wonderfully Spring-ish, too. Very well done!
